The true appearance of the island as seen at the end of the game

The Living Island is the name given to the setting of The ClueFinders 5th Grade Adventures: Secret of the Living Volcano.

Geography and Demography[]

The Living Island is an uncharted island somewhere in the Pacific Ocean. It is fairly small with a large volcano in its center, and it seems to have a tropical climate. The island's vegetation includes tall grasses, vines, ferns, and palm trees. The most curious aspect of the island is that it seems to be "alive" by residents' claims. The ocean waves around the island are said to automatically push back any boats that try to leave, there are holes in the ground that move on their own, and rain that remains in one place on the island. The island is populated by people who have become trapped there over the years. Many of them appear to be descended from colonial Americans, and still dress and talk as people did in that era.

Towards the end of the game, it is revealed that the entire island was actually a spaceship inhabited by aliens, who were collecting humans and other organisms for the purpose of raising them on their planet so they could feed on their brains. The interior of the volcano contains various biosphere chambers designed to contain animals and people that have been captured, and a computer which simulates predator-prey relationships between species to determine if they will thrive on the aliens' planet. After the ClueFinders find a control room, they initiate a launch sequence and escape with all the people on a boat, right before the volcano erupts and the island sinks in the sea. Then, the spaceship rises out of the water, its true form revealed, and blasts away, presumably back to the aliens' planet.
